Adoption

My wife and I recently adopted a baby boy: Jonathan Thomas Buck. Actually, the adoption won't be fully final and official for another 4 months or so, but we're past the period where the birth mother can change her mind. So I feel comfortable announcing it.

Yet another reason for me to admire you. You're a good man, Mr. Buck.

Congratulations!

A word of advice which a lawyer probably doesn't need: get his social security number early. We waited until after my adopted son was over 1 year old, and it has been a real headache to deal with.

You've been married this long and you're just now getting a John Thomas?

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

Congratulations.

Congrats! Speaking as an adoptee myself, it's best if they know about it early on. I believe I learned about it at 3, when my younger sister was adopted. (Mind you, I've only got vauge recolections of the day, mainly lots of relatives being over...) Growing up with the knowledge certainly beats finding out suddenly during adolecence or some such.

Thanks. I don't think Jonathan will have any trouble figuring that out. Take a look at the photo album, and consider that my wife and I are white. :)
