John Breaux made a
common-sense remark that deftly refutes the hysteria over the FCC's ever-so-modest loosening of the media consolidation rules:
Sen. John Breaux (D-La.), one of the few Democrats voting against Dorgan's resolution, said the debate over a 35 or 45 percent national cap is irrelevant when top-rated CBS reaches only 3.4 percent of the national audience nightly.
"It's like saying an auto dealer in New York has 6 percent of the total sales in the U.S. because New York has 6 percent of the total population," he said.
