Health Care

One thing that struck me as particularly odd about Bush's performance at the second debate is that he said this:
That's what liberals do. They create government-sponsored health care. Maybe you think that makes sense. I don't.
But very shortly before, he had said this in praise of his own accomplishments:
[I]n 2006 seniors are going to get prescription drug coverage for the first time in Medicare.
If you're going to brag about a dramatic expansion in government-sponsored health care, it would be wise to find something else to criticize about your opponent's plan.

  1. I made the same observation but quickly lost it. Unfortunately, I think there are alot of examples of this in Bush's compassionate conservatism.

    Good point.

To a large extent, when either candidate engages in this sort of illogic (and virtually all of them do) I only partially blame the candidate.

It is we, the people, who help to create this atmosphere. If we were willing to realize that there is no free lunch and that you cannot have your cake and eat it, too, we would have more candidates with firmly held and delineated views.

Did I use enough old saws for everyone, too??
