Religious Test

U.S. Constitution, Article VI:
The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.
Richard Durbin, explaining why he voted against Roberts:
Mr. Durbin, quoting the Bible, lamented that he could not discern whether Judge Roberts had "an understanding heart."

In all likelihood, probably not. But it would be very interesting to see what would happen to a Republican Senator who quoted the Bible as a reason to vote against a Democratic nominee.

At least Durbin didn't compare Roberts to Hitler or Stalin or Pol Pot.

He's capable of saying odd things.

I voted for Durbin here in Illinois to my deep shame.
