Exactly. As someone who still thinks of himself as a liberal, I'm constantly surprised at how some traditional liberal ideas such as school choice, federalism (the lab. of the states as Brandies said), the idea of color-blindness are now seen as "conservative" or "right-wing."
Of course, I guess I've always been an idea person, not a party person. If a right-winger or a left-winger has a good idea, it doesn't matter to me if the rest of their ideology is off-base (well, except to refute it).
