Me, Playing the Guitar

Here's an old video of me playing the guitar in a recital at the 1994 Christopher Parkening masterclass, at Montana State University.

I'm playing my 1967 Ramirez guitar; the maker in Ramirez's shop was Mariano Tezanos, or "MT." It's a very good guitar; Chris himself has played a 67 MT.

Wow! I wish I could still play like that (kidding!). That was obviously when you had time to practice. Alot! Very nicely done. Is there anything you don't do well?

Brilliant. Huge, beautiful sound -- even through the data compression. Really great.

Thanks, y'all! Glad you liked it.

My more critical notes when I view the clip:

40 seconds -- I muff the chords a bit.

Nice melody note at 47.

52, 54, 56, 59.

1:31 -- I muff the chords again.

Nice melody at 1:44 and following.

2:10: I muff the harmony chords a bit.

The passage at 2:40 is extremely fast, and it's pretty darn good for a live performance.

Still: Muffed a bit at 2:56
Muffed a bit at 2:58.

At 3:05 to 3:10, the bass line practically disappeared.

The passage at 3:36 to 3:46 is extremely hard, but I pretty much nailed it.

Nice bass line at 3:51-52.

At 52, 54, 56, 59, I think I was going to say that I made the notes buzz a little too much. That's common throughout the piece. If I were recording, I'd have to clean up a lot of things.
