I never had noticed that Peter Jackson's vision of Minas Tirith (as depicted in the Lord of the Rings movies) very much resembles the "Tower of Babel" as depicted by Pieter Breughel.
Actually, it's more Alan Lee's vision of Minas Tirith...or alternatively, if you have the Del Rey paperback version of ROTK (with the purple cover)--you'll see basically the same thing (painted by Michael Herring).
Tolkien was pretty descriptive on how MT looked, might be that he was influenced by Breughel--rather than Jackson.
